Vastu Devta - Mukhya (मुख्य)

'Mukhya' means, guide, leader, commander, main, first, chief, most excellent, head etc. Mukhya as per Samarangansutradhar is Vishwakarma, who is the divine architect, and who has a daughter Saranyu (the wife of Vivasvant) is also know as 'Tvashta'. He is also called Bhaumana, the divine carpenter. He is the the grand-father of the primeval twins Yama and Yami. The Rig Veda calls him the 'artificer' of the Gods. He is said to be the most skillful of workmen, having fashioned the bolt of Indra and a drinking-cup for the Gods. He is the guardian of Soma (Amrit), which is called the food of Tvashta. Indra drinks Soma at Tvashta's house.

Tvashtar or Tvashta is the heavenly builder. He is said to have made the three worlds with pieces of the Sun god, Surya. He built Svarga (Heaven) in the Satya Yuga, Lanka in the Treta Yuga and Dwarka (Krishna's capital) in the Dwapara Yuga. Since Vishwakarma is the divine engineer of the world, he is not only worshiped by the engineering and architectural community but also by all the professionals as a mark of reverence. It is customary for craftsmen to worship their tools in his name. This square is the natural care taker and is related to one's resources.

The two hymns of the Rigveda identify Vishvakarman as all-seeing, and having eyes, faces, arms and feet on every side and also has wings. Brahma, the God of creation, who is four-faced and four-armed resembles him in these aspects. He is represented as being the source of all prosperity, as swift as thought and titled a seer, priest, lord of speech. He is regarded as the supreme worker, the very essence of excellence and quality in craftsmanship. Through the four yugas he had built several towns and palaces for the gods. Among them were, in chronological order, Svarga (Heaven) in the Satya Yuga, Lanka in the Treta Yuga, and Dwarka (Krishna's capital) in the Dwapara Yuga and Indraprastha for Pandvas in Kali Yuga.

Vishwakarma is the designer of all the flying chariots of the gods, and all their weapons and divine attributes. Vishwakarma/Tvostar is also credited with creating the missiles used in the mythological era, including the Vajra, the sacred weapon of Lord Indra, from the bones of sage Dadhichi. Vishwakarma is the presiding deity of all craftsmen and architects. Son of Brahma, he is the divine draftsman of the whole universe and the official builder of all the gods' palaces. Vishwakarma is also the designer of all the flying chariots of the gods and all their weapons.
