Air Element Good for Teens

Southeast bedrooms can cause too much heat in life and lead to a fiery temperament

Q. I want to buy a flat with its entrance facing the east. But I am getting apartments facing the west. The builder I am dealing with says he will try to change the entrance and have it facing the north. Which one will be suitable? North or west? 

— Shilpi Gulati, Noida 

A. The location of the door is of utmost importance. West and north entrances both have good effects but must be properly located. A north door is best in the centre of the north side, or you could divide the north side of the house into nine equal parts and place the centre of the door in the centre of the third or fourth module from the northwest corner. A west door is located by dividing the west side by nine equal parts and then placing the centre of the door in the third or fourth module from the southwest corner. You can also take the centre line of the west side and place the north side of the door on the centre line so that the rest of the door is towards the southwest corner. 

Q. What happens when the bedroom is in the southeast?

A. The southeast bedroom is in the area of fire element. It can cause too much heat in life and lead to fiery temperament. 

Q. I have a rented room which works as bedroom cum office, with an adjoining bathroom. There are two large windows in the north. The entrance is from the east. What is the very best way to enhance this room for financial gain in my business?

A. Clear out the northeast, southeast and the centre of the room. Keep a puja altar in the northeast. Work in the north, facing north or east. Sleep in the southwest area with your head towards the south or east. 

Q. Our children’s bedroom is located in the northwest, it has an attached toilet in the northeast and storage space in the southeast direction. The flat is east facing. Is this fine or do we need to change something for the betterment of the children?

A. Northwest is the area of the air element. Teenagers are fine in this area, but children may have some influence of ‘movement’. Meaning they may be a little unsettled and have more outgoing tendencies. If you have a marriageable daughter, she can stay here. 

Q. Can we build a staircase inside our house to go to the first floor? Where should the staircase be built for an east facing house? 

— Niaz K, Gurgaon 

A. Stairs inside a house is acceptable but should not be built in the corners of the building, centre and the diagonal lines from corner to corner. Stairs need to be odd- numbered (like 11, 13, 15 etc), risers (vertical part of stair) should turn clockwise as you go up them. For an east- facing house, you can build the stairs in the south or western portion. the toilet and change it weekly. Keep the southeastern side clutter free. 

Q. Can all the four sides of the roof be slanted? 

— Rakesh, Noida 

A. Yes, it’s ok to have a pyramid type roof.
