Don’t Sleep Under a Beam
Slope of a plot towards South is not recommended. Entry from the North and sitting in the Southwestern side can bring good business
- Rameshwar Prasad, Vastu Consultant, Delhi, India.
Q. I am an IT professional. There is a beam running across the centre of my room what should be done?
— Parthasarathy Mahata, Noida
A. As long as your bed is not under the beam there is nothing to worry because sleeping or working under a beam is prohibited especially when you are in the basement or lower floors of a high rise building. The pressure exerted by the structure on the beam radiates anegative vibration can affect your health or professional progress. Rounding off the sharp corners and hanging a pair of flutes on the side of the beam offers relief. You can also cover the beam by false ceiling of your room.
Q. I have a plot 65 feet width and 120 feet length facing north. But the slope of plot is starting from the entry on north to south and is about 25 feet down to the neighbouring plot. Is it advisable to construct the house leaving the slope towards the south?
— Sangita Sharma, Ghaziabad
A. The slope of a plot downwards toward the south is not recommended as per Vaastu . Perhaps you could level the land and make the slope towards northeast or north.
Q. I have seen one northeast corner plot and the dimensions are 45 feet by 107 feet. I had read that dimensions should not be more than 1: 2 ratio. Can I take this plot? Are there any remedies for this kind of a plot?
— Rajiv Sandhu, Faridabad
A. You can take this plot. Don't worry about the plot dimensions. Create a compound wall that is 2:1 and keep the parking space outside, you can also do some landscaping there.
Q. Our shop is faces the north, in which direction should the proprietor's seat be placed and where can we put the computer table?
— Gaurav Jolly, Delhi
A. You can sit in the southwest and face north or east. The door should be in the north. You can keep the computer table in the southeast corner so that you can work on it facing east.
Q. The main door of my house is facing a wall. What are the effects and how does one rectify the same?
— Arun Tyagi, Noida
A. This may not be a problem. It depends on how far the wall is and its size. If it's far away and low in height don't worry about it. If you don't have a Vaastu designed house, it is hard to predict any effect of such a condition.
Q. I am working in a call centre. Can vaastu help in keeping good health?
A. According to vaastu a healthy mind leads to a healthy body. All discomforts of the body are nothing but emotional traps of the mind. Let go of blocked emotions and allow good health to permeate your body. To assist you in this effort keep your head aligned towards South or East while sleeping. Your kitchen especially the gas stove should not be visible from the entrance plus ensure good lighting and cross ventilation in your house. Please check what’s under your bed. Junk or metal objects should not be put there.
