Vastu shastra is the ancient Indian system of designing finely tuned buildings which resonate in harmony with the occupants and owners and promote wealth, prosperity, happiness, mental peace and spiritual growth.

An ideal structure should have a dynamic equilibrium of energy. Any serious disequilibrium will manifest as mechanical problems, breakdowns, loss of production, severe financial problems, labour troubles, fire, burglary, litigations, penalties, personal and family problems, accidents, even loss of life. The solution lies in locating the Vastu faults and rectifying them to create harmonious and positive energy fields.

Now, the basic question arises that when these remedies should be applied? What is the best time? The best way to do is any festival which falls on a good date, so that's the best way and that's the best time when you can actually apply Vastu remedies in your house.

One may ask where comes vastu in festive season? Here is the answer. Wherever comes a place including a place of worship, there comes vastu. Vastu is very important particularly in place of worship. If our place of worship is suitable to vastu it may plays wonder in our life. In vastu shastra, it’s very clear where to establish, the god, which side he must to face and back and which side a worshiper’s face would be.

Navarati or the nine nights of event starts after Amavsya thithi. The tenth day which is the most auspicious one, Vijayadasami.

'Nav' means 'nine' and 'ratri' means 'night', thus, 'Navratri' means 'nine nights'. There are many legends attached to the conception of Navratri like all Indian festivals but all of them are related to Goddess Shakti (Hindu Mother Goddess) and her various forms.

Dandiya and Garba Rass are the highlights of the festival in Gujarat while farmer sow seeds and thank the Goddess for her blessings and pray for better yield. In olden times, this festival was associated with the fertility of Mother Earth who feed us as her children. In some communities people undergo rigorous fasts during this season that lasts for the nine days of the festival, only to be opened on the tenth day of Dussehra. However, nothing dampens the spirit of the devout followers of Mother Goddess as they sing devotional songs and indulge in the gaieties of the season.

Diwali falls on a new moon day in the month of October or November. Deepavali means "the array of lights." "Thamasomaa jyotirgamaya" (Lead me from darkness to light). This means that where there is darkness light is needed. It is a festival of lights symbolizing the victory of righteousness and the lifting of spiritual darkness.

Diwali is for worshiping of Laxmi and you all know Laxmi is goddess of prosperity. Other related thing with Laxmi or Diwali is worshiping of account books, because it's the new year of Vikram Samvat. In New Year, account books are changed and worshiped by books keepers.

Who is worship in right direction they goes ahead in right direction. Let's see, which the right direction is. The perfect direction for worshiping is northeast. Laxmi is goddess of money and north is the direction of money. Therefore, she must be in north corner, her image would be in north, and worshiper must worship facing north. Now come to accounts. They also belong to money so must be in north.

Here’s how to have a Vastu friendly festive season this year:

It is a time for a thorough cleaning of the house, for the belief is that Lakshmi will enter clean and nicely decorated houses. The scientific reason is that the monsoon is a time for insects and fungus to breed. With the end of the monsoon, homes need to be cleaned and painted, and belongings aired and dried before the onset of winter.

A clutter-free environment is essential to regulate and improve the flow of the Chi in your home. Open spaces allow the positive energy to move freely in the household. Any obstruction to this balanced flow of energy should be removed. The positive energy has to travel freely and smoothly without jerks. This can be ensured by maintaining good ventilation aids. A clutter-free environment has a simultaneous effect on the people living there. It not only makes them feel emotionally and mentally balanced but also motivates them to work.

The space clearing on Diwali is supposed to enhance the power of the superior energies prevailing in the atmosphere. So get the house cleaned properly; if possible get it whitewashed. If not, then at least make sure all the corners, cupboards and drawers are properly cleaned. Use salt water for mopping the floor as salt absorbs all the negativity from the atmosphere. There should be no cobwebs. The locker or safe where money is kept should also be cleaned.

Vastu is all about balacing of the energy. Whenever you light up dark corners or brighten your home in general, you bring sunlight and positive energy into the area. There is stagnant or negative energy in some corners of the house. Such areas can be activated by lighting diyas or candles.

Diwali is celebrated to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, into the house. The Diwali puja is one of the most important and essential rituals of every household. One can even keep a small Lakshmi idol or shree yantra in the locker for good fortune.

Ensure that each and every corner of the house is lit properly. A lot of people wonder about the right direction in which a candle or diya should be placed, but on Diwali, all directions are equally important. The entrance door must be particularly well lighted. Place a diya on either side and a candle or a diya at every opening in the house. Make sure the puja diya remains lit for the entire night of diwali.

Diwali is very relevant when observed from vaastu angle. The home is decorated with rangoli designs and rows of lights to welcome Lakshmi. The rangoli designs and lights encourage the positive energy. Hanging of auspicious toran at the entrance is also another way to welcome positive energy.

The bursting of crackers is today the most important and eagerly-awaited part of the Diwali celebrations. According to one belief, the sound that resounds throughout the universe makes all aware of the great homecoming of Rama. Another belief is that the crackers are an indication of the joy of the people living on the earth, making the gods aware of their plentiful state. Still another possible reason has a more scientific basis: the fumes produced by the crackers will drive away a lot of insects, found in plenty after the rains.

In this festive season try to renovate your home, purchase the right decorations to invite prosperity, select a vastu perfect colour scheme, understand the vastu drawbacks in the house affecting the progress, harmony and health of the family and implement remedies to enjoy life long prosperity and harmony.

The overall feeling of festivities, love, purity, religion, knowledge and prosperity all go to make these festivals the most Vastu oriented festivals. Let us celebrate!!!! Happy Festivals!!
