2011 - Year of The Golden Rabbit

February 3, 2011 - January 22, 2012

The "Yin Metal Rabbit"!

General Overview of The Golden Rabbit Year

The Year of the Metal Rabbit 2011

The Year of the Metal Rabbit begins on February 4th, 2011. It should be clarified that the Solar New Year is based on the Hsia calendar or Solar Calendar beginning February 4, and the Chinese New Year celebrations are based on the Lunar Calendar which falls on the 14th February 2011. The Chinese acknowledge the yin and yang energies of each year; the yang (solar, masculine) new year, and celebrate the yin (lunar, feminine) new year

The year of the Metal Rabbit will be have many similar qualities as 2010.  It will be a very productive year, lots of new ideas, inventions, and discoveries. However, now we have Yin qualities - passive, internal, and receptive instead of the Yang energies of last year - active, expansive, energetic. The year of the Metal Tiger also triggered a Fire penalty for many people, bringing previously unknown illness to the surface and revealing enemies and problems.  Fortunately, the year of The Rabbit lacks the harsh and surprising qualities of 2010, but again we have a clash between two opposing elements. There will still be many conflicts, but they will be less obvious, less public.

The Rabbit is Yin Wood - flexible, compromising, and gentle.  The Rabbit is also a Romance Star, so we can expect to see alot of media attention (good and bad) focusing on love.  It certainly is perfect timing for Prince William to announce his engagement to Kate Middleton, the energetic beginning of the Rabbit year began in October 2010. Kate Middleton has a Rooster in her Four Pillars of Destiny which clashes with the Rabbit next year, stimulating her relationship to move to the next level. Read more about Kate Middleton in Your Four Pillars of Destiny below.

Yin Metal over Yin Wood in 2011 will be a boost for the movie, makeup, glamour, jewellery and fashion industries.  Any industries which involve celebrations such as wedding planners, events and party organisers will flourish in the Year of the Rabbit.  As the Annual Flying Star for 2011 is 7, communication industries such as IT will do well as 7 relates to the mouth/communication. Young women (20s-40s) will feature in the news and will rise or be promoted to top jobs this year. Teaching, singing, and acting will thrive.  Metal products and industries will be in demand such as steel production, car and building production, gold, silver, and jewellery.  It will be a challenging year for the transportation, energy, gas, timber, shipping, travel, publishing and media industries. Expect more natural disasters and extremes in climate conditions as two opposing elements fight for power.  Yin Metal represents small sharp objects like knives so stabbings will continue to grab media attention, particularly involving young men.  A high profile assassination is also possible in 2011.

The Misfortune Star 5 resides in the East from February 2011. Feng Shui Masters consider China and surrounding areas are part of the 'Far East' so North and South Korea tensions could remain throughout 2011. If you look at 1951, which had exactly the same pillars as the coming year 2011, Chinese and North Korea were fighting. In fact, the headlines have such a similar theme, its fascinating!  It talks about the future Queen of Britain, Queen Elizabeth and her future husband (Kate Middleton & Prince William now), terrible floods in the Mid West (floods in Australia and other parts of the world), Iran was in the news (concerns over Iran's nuclear power now).

Your Four Pillars of Destiny

In chinese astrology we analyse your hour pillar, day pillar, month pillar and year pillar. Each pillar has two characters. For instance, 2011 is the year of Yin Metal & Wood Rabbit.

If you click on this link you can calculate your four pillars. Your four pillars chart will be set out something like this: -

Hour Pillar
Day Pillar
Month Pillar
Year Pillar
Yin Wood
Yang Fire
Yin Water
Yin Metal
Metal Rooster
Earth Dragon
Wood Rabbit
Metal Rooster

If you have a Rooster in your four pillars, the year of the Rabbit will make you more sociable and attractive. Romance may blossom! If you are already in a relationship, it may move to the next level, or finish. That's because the clash between the Rabbit and the Rooster demands growth and change for the better, so if its not moving in the right direction, it will end. Kate Middleton is a good example as she has a Rooster in her year pillar.  If Prince William had not announced the engagement, she may have decided to end the relationship.  As can be expected whenever a clash of opposing elements occur, Kate will have a lot of new challenges and pressure next year (and anyone with a Rooster).  Always remember, challenges and pressure are not all bad. It is during these times we grow and learn, and come to understand so much about ourselves and life.

If you have a Rat in your four pillars, particularly your day or year pillar, ensure you listen to, and spend quality time with your partner this year, as your relationship may be on shaky ground if don't pay attention. Don't get involved in any love triangles as they could end very badly. Tiger Woods had this personal clash in his four pillars stimulated last year.

If you have the Tiger, Horse or Dog in your four pillars, you will also be more attractive this year. If single, you may meet someone very special this year. If you are already in a relationship, you may find you have a secret admirer.

If you see Yang Water or Yin Water in your day pillar or year pillar, you will encounter people who are helpful this year! Its like you have a guardian angel that appears from nowhere to help you. With Yin Water in your four pillars, you will have a strong urge to study next year, to learn something new or continue further research into your favourite topic.

Feng Shui Energies for 2011

The Annual Flying Stars are the feng shui energies that relate to the compass directions on the Earth Chart or World Chart for the 2011.

Unlike a feng shui analysis of your home which is unique and extremely accurate, the Annual Flying Stars for the compass directions are more general, but may have some impact on your life this year, especially if your front door, office or bedroom is located in the East or the South.

South East 6 South 2 South West 4
East 5 Center 7 West 9
North East 1 North 3 North West 8

The two numbers which are the most problematic are 5 and 2, and must be remedied!

1 = Wisdom

If your home or business is located in the North-East, your financial prospects will be good this year. Ensure your entrance looks beautiful, tidy and inviting. Add some beautiful metallic objects such as statues, vases, picture frames etc (gold and silver) to help support the 1 Water Star. If your bedroom is located in the North-East, your health and relationships will be good. Clear the clutter out of your bedroom, and ensure it looks beautiful, relaxing and tidy.

2 = Sickness

If the front door of your home or business is located in the South, your health may deteriorate this year thereby affecting your finances and business due to an increase in poor health and staff sickness. Place 6 Chinese Coins at the entrance to your home or business. The sound of metal also weakens the sickness star.  Use a Tibetan Tingsha, Tibetan Bell, Singing Bowl or Brass Bells and chime on a regular basis.  Say an affirmation such as 'money comes easily and frequently' every time you chime. If your bedroom is located in the South, you may have more health problems this year which could put a strain on your relationships. Place 6 Chinese Coins in the bedroom. The sound of metal also weakens the power of the sickness star, so I recommend a Tibetan Tingsha, Tibetan Bell, Singing Bowl or Brass Bells which must be chimed on a regular basis. Every time you chime, say a positive affirmation such as 'I have perfect health and relationships' and 'my guardian angels protect me'.

3 = Conflict

If the front door of your home or business is located in the North, your may be financially worse off in 2011, with the risk of more arguments, conflicts and legal problems such as fines, lawsuits and theft. Place 6 Chinese Coins at the entrance to your home or business. The sound of metal also weakens the conflict star, so I recommend a Tibetan Tingsha, Tibetan Bell, Singing Bowl or Brass Bells which must be chimed on a regular basis. Every time you chime, say a positive afffirmaton such as 'I am a magnet for money'. If your bedroom is located in the North, your relationships will be less harmonious and your health may be more challenging. Place 6 Chinese Coins in your bedroom and use a Tibetan Tingsha, Tibetan Bell, Singing Bowl or Brass Bells here to weaken the conflict star. Every time you chime repeat a positive affirmation such as 'I have perfect health and relationships'.

4 = Romance & Academic Success

If the front door of your home or business is located in the South West your finances will be good this year. You may find you have more interest for your products and romantic proposals too. It also supports academic success this year! To support the energies, at the entrance place 3 or 4 lucky bamboo in a vase and keep the entrance tidy and visually beautiful. If your bedroom is located in the South West your health will improve and your relationships may improve. However as romantic liasons are stimulated, you could have problems with competition, particularly if the bedroom is a mess and looks terrible. Place 3 or 4 lucky bamboo in the bedroom and keep it neat, tidy and beautiful this year to enhance good relationships and academic success.

5 = Misfortune

If the front door of your home or business is located in the East, your finances and business may be very challenging in 2011. The 5 misfortune star brings bad luck of all kinds, such as bankruptcy, sickness, accidents, catrastrophe. Place 6 Chinese Coins at the entrance to your home or business and use the sound of metal. The sound of metal weakens the misfortune star. Use a Tibetan Tingsha, Tibetan Bell, Singing Bowl or Brass Bells and chime on a regular basis. Say an affirmation such as 'money comes easily and frequently' every time you chime. If your bedroom is located in the East, your health and relationships may be more challenging this year. The sound of metal neutralises this misfortune star, so I recommend a Tibetan Tingsha, Tibetan Bell, Singing Bowl or Brass Bells, which must be chimed on a regular basis. Say an affirmation in the bedroom such as 'I have perfect health and relationships' every time you chime.

6 = Power & Authority

If the front door of your home or business is located in the South East your finances may be better this year. To bring out the positive energies of this star - good relations with authority such as police, councils etc and positions of power that come to you, you must keep the entrance tidy and visually beautiful. Remove all clutter, dead plants, peeling paint. If this area is untidy and looks uninviting, you may stimulate problems with power and authority. If your bedroom is located in the South East please ensure your bedroom is neat and visually attractive to bring out the positive qualities which will enhance your health and relationships in 2011.

7 = Fire and Accidents

If the front door of your home or business is located in the center of your home, your finances may deteriorate this year with an increase in fire, accidents and theft. Place 3 or 4 lucky bamboo in a vase at the entrance to help diminish the negative energy. At least once a day, say a positive affirmation such as 'money comes easily and frequently' at the entrance.  If your bedroom is located in the center, your health may be worse in 2011. Ensure you have a fire alarm in the bedroom, check the all alarm batteries and turn off all electrical items at night including electric blankets.  3 or 4 lucky bamboo in your bedroom will help to diminish the negative energies located here. Remember to say a positive affirmation such as 'I have perfect health and relationships' and 'my guardian angels protect me'.

8 = Prosperity

Congratulations! If the front door of your home or business is located in the North West, you will find your finances & business will improve this year. Place a large red picture or rug at the entrance to your home or business. Make sure this entrance is used all the time this year as activity helps stimulate the prosperous 8 Water Star.  If your bedroom is located in the North West, your health and relationships will improve this year. Buy a lovely red rug or picture and place them in your bedroom this year.

9 = Fame & Good Reputation

Congratulations! If your home or business is located in the West, because of your growing reputation and fame, your finances and business will improve this year. Place a large red rug at the entrance to your home or business.  Make sure this entrance is used all the time this year as activity helps stimulate the prosperous 8 Water Star.  If your bedroom is located in the West, your health and relationships will improve this year. Buy a lovely red rug or picture and place in your bedroom this year.

The East is where the Grand Duke resides this year. Try to avoid or minimize construction and digging here. If it is unavoidable, you may experience delays, equipment breakdowns and unforeseen obstacles.

Annual time stars are far more accurate when analysed in conjunction with the unique feng shui chart of your home or building, which is based on the year your home, shop or office was built and the exact facing direction. Therefore, a Comprehensive Feng Shui Consultation is recommended to predict and improve your unique situation.

Feng Shui Tips

To welcome in the optimistic and productive energies of the Metal Rabbit, start de-cluttering your home, office or shop now. Remove anything that is broken, you don't like or don't use. Get rid of gifts you don't like which are hidden in drawers or cupboards somewhere. Sell them on Ebay or give them to your favourite charity. These things energetically and emotionally drag you down and keep you from moving forward. You will be amazed how good you will feel when you remove 'old stuff' from your life.

Clutter in any area of your home, shop, or office will be blocking a part of your life. You will feel like you are stuck or stagnating. So get things moving and de-clutter your life!

Basics of Flying Star Fengshui

Flying Star System is a system used in Time-Dimension Feng Shui to analyze what type of intangible forces are occupying a particular compass direction. It is moving in a cyclical pattern and constantly changing location in time. It is a body of energies that governs a particular year, month or day. There are nine (9) stars with different influences positioning on each compass direction that affect us.

This system is also used in conjunction with the positioning of important rooms inside a property such as the location of the Main Door, Kitchen, Toilets and Bedrooms. To fully understand this system, let’s take a look at the different stars and its meanings:

  • White Star 1 – star that brings good reputation, recognition and advancement luck.

  • White Star 6 – brings power and authority. It also brings nobleman or helpful people.

  • Green Star 4 – good for literary or academic and relationship luck.

  • Black Star 2 – brings illness and accidents.

  • Jade Star 3 – brings arguments, gossips and stress.

  • Five Yellow – brings major misfortune.

  • Red Star 7 – brings burglary, lawsuit and rivalry

  • White Star # 8 – is the most prosperous and vibrant star in this current period of 8. It governs accumulation of wealth and prosperity from the main source such as salary, rentals, and other financial source in a regular basis. This is also referred to as the Primary Wealth Star.

  • Purple Star # 9 – is the star that brings luck for future expansion or prosperity. It is considered the secondary Wealth Star as it the best star to tap if you want long-term and big profits in the future. Its effect is not immediate.

The following is a summary of what everyone can do with limited knowledge of Feng Shui. Please note that if you are uncertain about the Feng Shui configurations of your house, hire a professional to evaluate your house. Aside from annual Feng Shui energy, you may need to take into consideration the use of other traditional Chinese methods such as Flying Stars, Eight Mansions and so forth. The annual star also has an impact on the Flying Stars which is determined by the time factor. The use of trinkets, ornaments and statues may be considered. Although some may consider them superstition, certain animals such as the Dragon, Kirin, and Pi Yao Dogs, if placed properly, can have powerful defensive qualities. If you intend to make Feng Shui changes for 2011, be sure to do so after February 4th 2011.

The Grand Duke of Jupiter (82.5Ί – 97.5Ί East)

Every year, the Asians who are into Feng Shui are always concerned firstly about where the “Grand Duke” resides for the year. It is an area where there is energetic imbalance due to its interactions with the planet Jupiter and the cosmos. This is an area that should not be disturbed. For the Year of the Rabbit, the Grand Duke is located in the East, therefore, avoid renovations and major activities in this area of the house. The inauspicious 5 star also moved into this sector which makes the east sector an even more difficult area to deal with. Things to beware of and remedies in the East sector:

• Avoid red and earth colors in this sector.
• Place six coins in a row or metal objects here.
• Brass, bronze, silver or gold dragon ornaments are also recommended.
• Pi Yao Dogs (preferably two) are of very popular ornaments used to appease the Grand Duke.
• If you have a different sector of entry into the house, try to use that instead of the east sector. If the east entrance is unavoidable, try not to bang or slam the door upon entry.
• Calabash or Wu Lu Gourd can also be used.

Annual One White Star (Northeast)

This year, the Romance Star flies to the Northeast sector. For those who are interested in enhancing their romance aspect of your lives, or increase the possibilities of meeting people, place metal and water objects in this area of your living space. The sound of metal such as a metal chiming clock or music box can do the trick. Water is also advised for this area. If you were to choose one or the other element, definitely go with metal since the Northeast area represents earth. With metal, you are providing a bridge between the earth and water energy of this area.

Annual Two Black Star (South)

The Two Black Star is often referred to as the sickness star. For 2011, this is not a good area at all as the sickness star is enhanced by the fire from the south. If the south area of your house is the bathroom, guestroom, laundry or storage room, then it is of less concern to you. In Flying Star Feng Shui, when the 2 and the 9 come together, there is a higher potential of misfortunes.

Remedies:
• Place six metal coins in this area.
• Avoid major building work or renovations. If you need to do so, hire a professional to select a date for renovations.
• Brass ingot can be used to protect wealth.
• Metal Wu Lou Gourd (Calabash) is also recommended to reduce the effects of the sickness star.
• Avoid colors of red and the use of fire (eg. Candles and electronic equipment) in this sector.
• Some books that I have come across in Hong Kong recommended placing wood in this sector to fight the earth energy. Personally, I’d rather reduce the bad energy before fighting it.

Annual Three Jade Star (North)

This star is not as bad as the Two Black Star nor the Grand Duke yet you have to be aware of arguments and disputes in this area of the house or business unit. The remedy for this area is simple. Since the Three Jade Star possesses wood energy, utilize red colors and fire-related objects to reduce the strength of the wood. Avoid using water features in this sector for the year unless and Feng Shui consultant has diagnosed this area properly utilizing Flying Stars. Do not hang wind chimes or place metallic instruments in this area.

Annual Four Green Star (Southwest)

This is often referred to as the academic or scholar star. It governs not only academic and artistic talents, but also other parts such as career, travel, wisdom, education and interpersonal relations. Unfortunately, this star flies into the Southwest sector which possesses earth energy, as a result, the academic star is weaker for this year due to its conflict with the earth energy. In order to raise the energy of the academic star, you will need to place four bamboo sticks in a water vase. Do not place plants with earth in this area as you can end up creating conflict in this sector for those who are studying. Avoid placing metal objects as it will weaken the academic star. Having a wooden bookshelf or pagoda in this area is also auspicious.

Annual Five Yellow Star (East)

As mentioned earlier about the Grand Duke, this sector is not suitable for major activities. It is not all doom and gloom when we deal with Feng Shui. The key is identifying the bad sectors and finding the proper remedies. Many traditional Chinese cures involve the use of salt water or six Chinese coins in this area. Those methods may work but it is more important to avoid disturbing this sector. Utilize more metal in this area. Please refer to the above description on the Grand Duke for remedies in this area.

Annual Six White Star (Southeast)

The Six White Star is a good star for those who want to enhance their career luck. This is also considered to be a military star which is favourable for those who are politicians or officers. Since the Six White Star possesses metal energy while the Southeast possesses wood, we would require a bridge in order to enhance the metal. To do this, place both fire and earth related items together. Logically, you would have the wood feeding the fire, and the fire strengthening the earth, then the earth can strengthen the metal. You can also place a real quartz crystal or crystal spheres in this area to activate the energy of the White Star.

Annual Seven Robbery Star (Center)

This year, the ‘Broken Soldier’ star is imprisoned in the center palace. This star represents robbery, deception, theft, gossips and back stabbing. This star must be taken care of or there may be possibilities of loss of wealth and break-ins. Do NOT use red colors in the center of your house and try to avoid candles and electronic equipment here. Metal chimes and metallic instruments must also be avoided here. The best remedy for this sector is to place water here. If you intend to use water features in this sector, ensure that the water flows slowly. Water that is crashing or vibrant in this area would accidentally activate the robbery star. If in doubt, you can always upgrade your security and alarm system.

Annual Eight White Star (Northwest)

Out of all the stars, the eight star is the most auspicious since it is governing the flying star for this period until 2023. The auspicious earth energy of the eight star resides in a metal area where its fortunes are reduced for 2011. For those who like to place crystals at home, this is the area where it should belong in for this year. The best quality of handpicked quartz crystals is recommended and they have to be place properly and visible in the northwest for 2011. Wealth and fame will also be found in this area of the world and I will cover this next month in my annual predictions for 2011. If your bedroom is located in the northwest, you can also consider placing an amethyst crystal here to strengthen the Eight White Star. The northwest should also be free of clutter. Many Chinese tend to place 8 white pebbles aligned in a shape of a cross like the image shown in the stars chart. The white pebbles can also strengthen and solidify the earth energy in this sector.

Annual Nine Purple Star (West)

This is supposed to be a very auspicious star since it is considered a ‘future’ wealth star with an auspicious influence in this current period. For 2011, the Nine Purple Star, representative of fire energy is in conflict with the metal energy of the west. To make matters worse, the Annual Three Killings reside in this sector. Do not place metal objects in this area as you may end up disturbing the negative energy of the Three Killings. It is best to hold back renovations or major activities in this area of the house for 2011. Remedies for this area would include water and wood objects. Green plants or fresh flowers grown in water would be your best solution. If you are interested in placing Chinese ornaments to take care of the Three Killings, many would use 2 kirin dogs facing the Three Killings.

It is important to remember that the annual flying stars are best to use in conjunction with the period star and the flying star of the building.

The Feng Shui setting out for the Metal Rabbit Year 2011:

The East: This is the position of major sickness and it brings problems to your respiratory and digestive system. If your main door, kitchen or bedroom falls right on the East grid, you would even have more serious symptoms. To resolve, put a music box or wind chimes in the East grid of the house. You can also put other metal objects that make a sound there, such as several metal keys.

The Southeast: This is the location of courage and military ability and it brings luck to anyone having a non-clerical job. If you want a promotion, put 8 white stones in the Southeast grid of your house. If you want a salary raise, put a glass of water there. Those in disciplinary squads, rail maintenance, or those working as computer hardware technicians, interior decoration workers or construction workers would all benefit from this position.

The South: This is the direction of minor sickness and if your main door, kitchen or bedroom falls right on the South grid of the house, you'd get sick easily. The ailments would be mostly related to the respiratory system (i.e. throat, trachea, and lungs) and the abdomen. You can put a metal object that makes a sound (e.g. a conventional music box, wind chimes or a bunch of metal keys) in that grid of your house to resolve.

The Southwest: This is where the luck of intellectual achievement is located. To boost such luck, you can grow 4 water bamboo plants in the Southwest grid of your house. Or simply putting a glass of water there would help too. Besides enhancing the luck of students and scholars, such direction also has positive effects on signing contracts or processing of documents.

The West: There is the location of joyful events. If you have been in a steady relationship for sometime but your wedding is not planned yet, you can put 4 potted plants and 9 steams of red flowers in this position to make it happen. Of course boosting the luck in this location catalyses all joyful events, such as having a baby if you're married, getting a career promotion or salary raise etc.

The Northwest: The Star of Wealth Ba Bai is here. You can put a glass of water, or grow water plants, or put a fish tank in the Northwest grid of your house to boost your luck of wealth.

The North: This is the location of quarrels and fights and you can put a pink carpet in the North grid of your home to resolve. (If your job demands talking frequently to strangers, then you don't need to resolve it.)

The Northeast: This is the location of relationship. To boost your love luck and general human relations, put a glass of water here with a conventional music box next to it. Wind the music box from time to time to vibrate the water with sound waves. This is not restricted to singles only. If you want to make more connections, or your job demands frequent social contacts and interpersonal skills, you should try it even if you're married.

The Central Grid: There is where the Star Qi Chi shines on. It was the Star of strong luck previously and its luck is slowly fading. Yet, it still brings some luck. You can put a glass of water in the Central grid to boost your luck of wealth.

Enhance the luck of relationship and love luck
The position of relationship is in the Northeast grid. For the best luck in love relationship, you can put a glass of water and a music box in the Northeast grid of your house. For better general human relations, you should put an pig/boar figurine decorative piece in the Northwest. Of course you can have both love luck and good interpersonal relationship if you do both. If you decide you don't need any more love relationship (say, you are married) but you need good interpersonal relationship, you might skip the glass of water.

Enhance the luck of marriage and joyful events
The location of joyful events is in the West. You can put 4 potted plants in the West grid to boost the energy of the Star. Then put a glass of water in the Northeast grid of relationship to boost general human relations.

Enhance the luck of examination and intellectual achievement
To enhance the luck of examination and academic study, put 4 water bamboo plants in the Northeast grid. Then, put a glass of water in the Southwest grid. This would maximize the energy of the Star of intellectual achievement with its complementary star Yi Bai.

Enhance the business
If your business is not doing too well this year, you can put 4 water bamboo plants in the Southwest grid of the house (the location of intellectual achievement), and then 8 white pebbles in a glass of water in the Northwest grid (the location of wealth).

Enhance the luck of wealth
The grid of joyful events is in the West grid; star Qi Chi in the Central; the Star of wealth in the Northwest. To boost your luck of wealth, you can put a glass of water with one black stone in at each of these positions. Yet, such setup cannot be used permanently. You have to take a month break after 3 month for it to stay effective.
