A plot with road in the west side,
with main entrance to the plot from west direction, is considered
as a west facing plot. According to Vastu, a west facing plot is
not considered a very good plot in general.A west facing plot
can't be used for all purposes; in some cases it considered good
while not in others .However, all the rules of vastu that are
applicable to the construction and usage of the plot are as under:
Road
The road in the west side of the plot i.e. the front road of the
plot should be higher than the plot, but not higher than the floor
of the building i.e. floor level of the rooms, kitchen etc.
Open Space
Open space in the front of a west facing house should be minimum.
According to Vastu, plots with western roads can build the the
house adjoining the compound wall. More open space should be left
in the back/rear side (being east and north) of the house in
comparison to front of the house.
Gate
The main entrance gate to the house should be in the mid-west or
northern half of the plot. According to Vastu, a west facing
north-west gate is most beneficial for the inmates.
Levels
In a west facing plot, area in the south-west of the plot should
be raised in comparison to the north-east. So, the verandah and
other rooms in the front of the house must be higher than rooms in
the rear/back side of the house. In Vastu, while considering these
levels, you should take in account the ground floor, first floor
and terrace levels, and this rule about levels must be maintained
for each floor.
Boundary Wall
The front wall for a west facing house should be higher than the
back wall. The boundary walls in the south-west portion should be
heavier than walls in the north-east.
Water Storage/Sump
Never construct the water storage tank in the front portion of the
house. It can be in the back of the house, either in the eastern
part or the northern, but not in the center portion in the
rear/eastern wall of the house.
Construction
South-West corner of the house (where south and west walls meet)
should never be left open and must be constructed. A servant room
or garage, however is better to be in this portion. If a garage is
constructed - it shouldn't touch the main building of the house
i.e. kitchen bedrooms etc., if possible.
Bathroom/Toilets
Bathrooms can be constructed in the south-east or north-west
portion of the house and never in the north-east. So, the bathroom
should be constructed in the front portion of the house and not in
the back portion, in case of a West facing plot. Water taps should
be provided in the north and geyser should be provided in the
south-west. The slope of the floor should be towards north-east.
Avoid painting the bathroom in dark colors like black, brown and
red etc.
Door
The main door to the house can be in the mid-west, or in the
northern half of the front of the house. The backdoor, if needed,
can be provided in the mid-east of the back of the house, but
never in the east facing south-east. And Vastu doesn't allow a
combination of west facing and south facing doors in the house.
Balcony/Verandah
Balconies should be in the north-east of the house and never in
the south-west, as the sun rays of the morning are beneficial. If
any verandahs are constructed in the south-west portion of the
house, comparatively bigger verandahs must be provided in the
north-east direction. Verandahs, if any, in the south-west should
be enclosed in grills or sliding doors.
Bedrooms
The master bedroom should be constructed in the south-west of the
house, i.e. in the front portion of the house. One should never
sleep with head towards the north as this might result in
sleeplessness. The beds should never be placed in the center of
the room, and a gap of a few inches must be provided while placing
the bed. Children's bedroom should be in the west portion of the
house. And a guest room can be constructed in the north-west of
the house. The bedrooms should be painted in pink or yellowish
white.
Pooja Room
Pooja room should be in the north-east of the house. One's face
should be towards the east while praying. A window in the
north-east wall is beneficial. And the ceiling of the pooja room
should be lower than other rooms.
Staircase
The stairs should be constructed in the south, west, or south-west
portion of the house, and should always be clockwise if
turning/circular. External stairs, if any, should be in the front
portion.
Kitchen
The kitchen should be in the south-east of the house. The lady of
the house should face while cooking. The sink for cleaning
utensils should be in the north-west. Fridge should be in the
south-west of the kitchen. Kitchen can be painted in light colors
like white and yellow, but avoid red color.
First-Floor
More construction should be done in the front portion the house in
comparison to the back portion, leaving more space in the
north-east. A terrace/open space in the north-east portion is
beneficial.
Outhouse
An outhouse can be built in the south-west of the house without
touching the east/back compound wall, or in the north-west of the
plot without touching the north compound wall.
Septic Tank According to Vastu, a septic tank can be constructed in
the mid-north or mid-east area or the plot. So, the septic tank
can be built in the back of the house.
Landscaping In a west facing house, Vastu allows tall trees in the
front portion of the house and small plants in the backyard and
northern side of the house. Tall trees can also be planted in the
south of the house.
Overhead Tank
Overhead tank should be in the south portion of the house, and
must be raised a few inches from the roof level, thus being the
highest point in the house.
Electricity Main Board or Generator Room
The electricity board and generator room should be constructed in
the southeast of the house.
