Environment
and Vaastushastra
The
concept of Panch-Maha-Bhuta (five great elements) is
skillfully interwoven into practice of Vaastushastra.
The elements - Prithvi (earth), Aap (water), Tej (fire),
Vayu (wind), Akash (ether) - are common to man and his
environment. Hindu vedic principles maintain that the
cosmos and the human beings have evolved from the same
elements. Any individual reflects the same properties
that entire universe is endowed with. It is a great
network of event manifest that connects the man and the
cosmos. The events in human life are influenced by the
subtle changes that occur in the natural balance of the
five great elements, either in the immediate environment
or in the cosmic envelope.
Trees
can be grouped on the basis of their water absorption
property, soil retention capacity, gases and vapours
releasing characteistics, roots spreading tendencies,
thick or thin foliage, size or height, shape and colour
of leaves etc. Vaastushastra advocates directionwise
planting of specific trees making best possible use of
these parameters. Apart from this, Vaastushastra
understands the qualities of five great elements
associated with these trees and plantations to provide
solutions on any directional deficiencies or
Vaastu-dosha.
